LSAT Diary 2 - 3 Months to LSAT
So today marks the 3 month...mark...from my LSAT test date. I officially began delving in to the aforementioned LSAT Test Prep books and was immediately in entirely over my head. That being said, I feel like progress was made even in just the short hour to hour and a half I spent working this afternoon.
My first problems were pretty simple, and a little embarrassing. I wasn't sure whether conditions carry over from one question to another in the logical reasoning section. That was quickly answered for me, by the book. They are not.
My next problem involved how to annotate the conditions given. If the question is something like, say, John, Paul, Mary, Sue and Lou are all coming over for dinner. They each want to be the only house guest on the night the come over. John does not want to come following the day Paul does, and Mary will only come after Sue, Paul never leaves his house on Monday Wednesday or Friday, etc.
Would I want to make a table wherein the columns are titled the individuals names, i.e.:
J P M S L
~M
~M
~W
~F
And then place the conditions, in notation, beneath that?
Or would I want to title the columns the days of the week and place the notated initials beneath that.
M T W Th F S S
~P ~P ~P
I have not yet found a solid solution. I am attempting to see if always trying to minimize the number of columns your table has is the best method, if anyone has any tips for this or any other notation-related (or LSAT-related for that matter) issues, please do leave a comment.
That being said, I am using zero order logic notation for (not) and conditionals, i.e. Paul will go to Vancouver if Mary goes to New York would be represented (Pv --> Mn).
We shall see how that goes.
