LSAT Diary - Introduction
My LSAT date is set for June 7, 2010, so I thought it might be interesting for me (and perhaps others also in preparation) to kind of keep a study-journal.
About Me
So a quick little biography of me here, I'm a 24 year old student at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. Prior to that, I was at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ. I am in my Junior year at Drexel, a full-time student, with a 12 credit workload through until mid-March at which point I will switch over to 20; additionally, I commute about 5 hours total each weekday.
That is a sort of quick run-down of all my time sinks, and gives you a rough idea of how much time I have to devote to studying. Somewhere squeezed within that schedule is 7-9 hours of work study, and down time and all that.
Moving on...
Logic Background
The short answer is I don't have any formal education in logic, to speak of. I have taken (am currently taking) one course in zero-order propositional logic, and that amounts for the extent to which I have studied it formally. I do have something of a passing interest in logical fallacies and cognitive biases.
Study Materials
My lovely and talented girlfriend Gina is so very kind, and gifted me The Official LSAT SuperPrep, as well as 10 LSAT Tests for practice. These will be my main studying materials, with some supplemental resources I shall mention along the way (such as the LSAT Logic in Everyday Life podcast from The Princeton Review).
Methods and Schedule
I have looked around at a number of programs for preparatory studying, and think I am going to go the wing-it method. I don't mean to imply that I intend to slack off on studying, I just don't feel like any formal program is a good fit with my academic and personal schedules. My concern is that, if I should begin a firm program with a scheduling component, I will become disillusioned when and if my schedule does not permit me to progress at the prescribed rate.
So, to put it plainly, my schedule is going to be to study as often and for as long as is possible.
In Conclusion
So yes, I thought I would do a quick little introductory message here, kind of give anyone reading an idea of who I am and what sort of plan I have for preparing, I know it is incredibly barebones, but I hope to develop my methods and schedules as I progress forward, and will try to keep any one wishing to read about my progress updated.
