Ruby-throated Hummingbird (female)

Dscf1583

Finally managed to get a decent photo of the ruby-throated hummingbird that has been frequenting the feeder this month. My understanding is they return to their nesting sites year after year, so I hope we have a permanent population. I think this girl is preparing for her flight south:

Enjoy them while they’re around; by early fall they’re bound for Central America, with many crossing the Gulf of Mexico in a single flight. (http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Ruby-throated_Hummingbird/lifehistory)
