I was pretty excited when this big girl visited the suet feeder, thinking it was (surely) the regionally-rare Red-headed woodpecker. Just look at that noggin! If there ever was a woodpecker with a red head, that would be it.
Finally managed to get a decent photo of the ruby-throated hummingbird that has been frequenting the feeder this month. My understanding is they return to their nesting sites year after year, so I hope we have a permanent population. I think this girl is preparing for her flight south:
